A New New Beginning

I started this blog with a post called A New Beginning.  That was several months and a lapband in and out ago.  I saw the surgeon (a different one than before) today to reassess the possibility of replacing the lapband.  I do this with some trepidition.  I have never been scared of surgery, maybe a little nervous, but I am scared of the possibility of another infection.  Some people have told me I'm nuts.  I agree with them of course.  However, I have thought about this a lot and have come to the conclusion that in order to lose the weight, keep it off and be able to maintain a stable cardiac status, I need to have it put back in.  In the small amount of time I had the lapband in, I found that it really helped me to control how much I was eating.  I came to a screeching halt at a banquet when I found that if I took one more bite, the pain and threat of throwing up was definitely real.  I need that, I believe, to lose and maintain my ideal weight.  That said, I went to see the surgeon  He is the one who took out my lapband when it was infected.  I evidently am at a higher risk now than last time due to having had the infection.  He will have to not only put the band in but will have to take out some scar tissue and may have to do an "open" procedure.  This would entail a large incision and several weeks off work and a longer recovery.  Despite all of this, I want to go ahead.  Now we just have to see if the insurance will approve it.  God is in control, God is in control, God is in control......  As you can see, I keep wanting to take back that control but God will take care of everything.

  1. Hi Jan, What a journey you've been on. I hope the new surgeon works out well and that the surgery achieves all you want from it. I can relate to the battle of the bulge and will be interested to follow your further adventures....And I'll be praying for you. Jean Wilkinson Martinis
